Music Bio








Johnnie L. Mills Jr., began his musical background as a lead guitar player in his grandmother’s church at the age of 9. At age 12 he met Charles L. Walton, and began to play with Charles’s band “The New Generation”. By age 13 and beyond he began playing with other professional bands, (all older members). Johnnie (aka JBO), performed with such groups as: Parliament, Earth Wind and Fire, Al Green and Buddy Miles.
Johnnie began his own recording studio (JBO Studios), more than 47 years ago that became Mixed Generation Records & Recording Studios while partnering with Charles L. Walton (aka Butch) in 1994 to present. While still continuing as a musician, Johnnie has expanded his musical talents that include playing Keyboards, Drums, Bass Guitar and trumpet utilizing his musical skills not only in his recording studio but during performances and on tour nationally and worldwide with a multitude of professional bands.
Johnnie has completed the full musical score himself for the motion picture “Brew City” with vocals performed by the Mixed Generation and lyrics by Charles L. Walton that was released nationally in 1994. Johnnie has written top selling songs such as; “I Can Do Bad By Myself” performed by well -known recording artist Jessie James and music for the hit song, “Disco Lady” lyrics by Harvey Scales and performed by Johnnie Taylor.
Johnnie continues his highly successful recording studio and records for a selected variety of well-known, local & national artist. Johnnie has never forgotten his spiritual roots in the gospel genre. Since 1994 to present he has been involved as the musical sound of the world known recording artist, Mixed Generation. Johnnie along with other music professionals such as Ray Simpson and Lincoln Russell has just completed the latest Mixed Generation song, “God You Are Blessed (You Are worthy)”, lyrics Charles L. Walton, scheduled for world release on the internet in December 2025 and world-wide radio broadcast January 2026.
